Shell won a  Poetry Award and had poetry published through the Argus Newspaper at the age of seven.

Professional Life
Kathryn Shell has had a creative life and has desired to be a novelist since she was thirteen.
Shell won several non-fiction writing competitions.
Shell chose to be a full time painter and sculptor who wrote part time.
At age Sixty, Shell decided it was time to fulfill her lifetime goal to become a novelist and began researching her current completed novel which she began to write on November 1st 2010.
During the time Shell was a full time artist, she became a Non-Fiction, PR & Speech and Script Writer: As a professional artist, she exhibited as acclaimed Australian artist, Kathy Shell of the award winning, Buninyong Gallery, see http://www.kathy-shell.net  and gained experience writing public relations material for herself and her guest exhibiting  artists including scripts for guest speaker appearances, interviews on Radio and Channel Nine’s ‘the Ernie Sigley Show,” and appearances of Channel Nine’s regional network news presentations.

Community Service - Voluntary Creative Life.
Though her voluntary, counseling work, for Nursing Mothers of Australia, Shell co-wrote a non-fiction self-help publications. This is still in publication forty years later and as such could be classed as a best seller. 
Shell was a work experience reporter and fill in editor for a short time with ‘The Pekingese Topics.’
Shell wrote research articles for the Nursing Mother’s Association, now the Breast feeding Association of Australia.
Shell was the medical research ghost writer for the Australian Medical Journal.

Full time fiction writer, since August 2010.

One Novella of 10,000 words published in July 2011 'Set Free' ` Grey Nomad,
One full length Novel, 100,000+ words completed to final draft stage July 2011

Shell has now retired from painting and sculpture to bring her long term goal of being a novelist though to fruition. She is approaching writing with the same passion and dedication she gave to her successful art career and is grateful she never stopped writing during that time. 

Creative Inspiration
An avid reader and writer of nonfiction in the fields of health, fitness, travel and creativity, Shell is also inspired by life and the works of great writers of mystery and coming of age genre fiction and she loves to write stories about love, intrigue, resilience, optimism and Australia.

Shell delights in encouraging others to write. One of her daughters became an award winning author during her teenage years and Shell has one grandchild who has been accepted into a high achievers class at high school based on the teenager’s award winning writing ability.  They in turn have influenced Shell’s own writing towards telling adult stories though the eyes of youth and Shell is discovering the genre of young adult writing and is a Sister in Crime.
